    Grant Summersfield

University of Auckland – Bachelor of Science (Psychology)

    Professional Overview

Grant has combined his love of the outdoors and psychology to become a well-established expert in providing group and individual Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in an Adventure Learning Environment. Grant’s methods and practice have achieved massive success in addressing problematic youth behaviour and family dysfunction. Grant has delivered CBT and Adventure Therapy programs and trained practitioners for over 10 years.

Grant was responsible for creating the program design and directing the delivery of an “Early Intervention Youth Boot Camp” from 2013 to 2015, which was fully funded by the Queensland Government. Grant was fortunate to have his intervention methods featured Nationally on the ABC’s “7:30 Report” over a two-part documentary. This documentary was most favourably received by the general public and Grant was subsequently invited to present his program to the Psychology Faculty at both Bond University and Griffith University.

In 2015, the Queensland Government commissioned an extensive independent program evaluation of all Queensland Government funded Youth Boot Camps. This evaluation, conducted by KPMG, concluded that Grant’s Gold Coast Youth Boot Camp was the most effective of all the Queensland Boot Camp providers. Specifically, KPMG determined that the program delivery was consistent with empirically evidenced theory and that designed outcomes had been achieved.

Adventure Therapy is a highly effective method to address a wide range of behavioural concerns with youth and families. Programs are adaptable to target particular concerns and can be group based or individual.
